7.2 Stellar Explorations: Pyrimiis 1 (Dual Worlds)
An account of the Pyrimiis system’s rare co-orbital Dual Worlds and their 2129 collision, alongside the postwar exploration that recovered the Extra Galactic Probe and expanded UFP membership.
Dual Worlds: Pyrimiis I
The Dual Worlds exhibited an extremely rare astronomical phenomenon: the two planets occupied the same orbit around their star. Pyrimiis I and II maintained a precarious celestial balance for their planetary lifespans, a balance that finally became unbalanced, and the two worlds collided in 2129, causing the loss of all life in that solar system.
Pyrimiis originally contained five planets. I and II were destroyed in 2129. The three remaining planets are uninhabitable.
- Pyrimiis I: Distance from star 1.48 (×10⁹ km); Diameter 11,394 km; Revolution 347 d (Solar days & years); Average surface temperature 21°.
- Pyrimiis II: Distance from star 1.48 (×10⁹ km); Diameter 11,379 km; Revolution 347 d (Solar days & years); Average surface temperature 21°.
Exploring the Unknown
With the Romulan War successfully concluded, and new territorial boundaries set up in 2109, increasing starship range and velocity made possible the encountering of the famous, but to this day unknown, Extra Galactic Probe. The Castor Class starship responsible for this prized catch was exploring uncharted sectors of space, frontier voids where no Federation ship had ever traveled to. This class, and its older brother the Marshall Class, continually extended the exploratory boundaries of the UFP time and time again.
It was this mapping of unknown space that helped the UFP acquire record numbers of new members in the years following the War.
