7.1 Ships: USS Patton, USS Enterprise (Starliner), Prototype Battlecruiser, USS Hurok
Detailed profiles and specifications of the era’s principal vessels: the Marshall-class destroyer USS Patton, the Declaration-class starliner USS Enterprise, the failed Prototype Battlecruiser, and the Broadway-class USS Hurok.
USS Patton — Marshall Class (Warp 3.8 Destroyer)
The ambush and loss of the USS Patton began the Romulan War. The Marshall class was the Federation’s staunchest line of defense, and these ships’ superior warp performance and firepower provided a crucial tactical edge. In fact, the class supposed to succeed it could not better its specifications and so was never built, the reason the Marshall class had the longest commissioned lifespan in interstellar history.

USS Enterprise — Declaration Class (Warp 3.2 Starliner)
This original Enterprise was the first spaceliner built specifically for the major Federation space lanes (such as Earth - Alpha Centauri). The travel demand that blossomed in the 22nd century resulted in 957 of these Declaration class ships being commissioned. The Enterprise’s name lives on in the current refitted heavy cruiser (Constitution-II Class).

Prototype Battlecruiser
During the darkness of the Romulan War, when the prospect of prolonged hostility seemed only too real, Star Fleet Command ordered this battlecruiser prototype built and feasibility tested. However, the ship proved tremendously unwieldy and never entered active service. Its failure to perform to specification was a major reason why both the Horizon and Marshall classes enjoyed such an extended commissioned life.

USS Hurok — Broadway Class
The Hurok was the flagship for the UFP Galactic Cultural Exchange Project. A hybrid ship, it was originally a Merchant-Class cargo ship that was renovated to accommodate the specific needs of its complement of cultural ambassadors. Through the decades, the Hurok was refitted with the latest warp engines, and this incredibly sturdy classic can still be seen in operation at various ports of call.
