A Concise Look at Ships and Events: Spaceflight Chronology

—At the Rigel XII Mining Complex, an obscure crystal called dilithium is found to contain properties that will revolutionize warp mechanics.

—The UFP's most difficult stardates occur at the Babel Conference when a resolution is introduced to dissolve the Federation. Cooler heads prevail and the crisis is resolved.

—The introduction of an advanced space trawler class makes it much easier for remote bases and outposts to receive needed raw materials.

—R&D improvements in Subspace Radio enable transmissions to reach the velocity of warp 20.

—Recent great strides in science and technology are an important reason why many planets now have an optimistic outlook on the future.

—Construction begins on the largest class of ships to date, the Constitution Class.

—The M-1 computer, using the advanced technology of Duotronics, is designed. Its many flaws result in this prototype being extensively revised.

—Largest space rescue ever recovers 600 passengers and crew from unexplored sector.

—Dilithium crystals are integrated into a new generation of engines capable of greater velocity, range and thrust. The Sawyer Class scouts are the first ships to incorporate these engines.

—In recent years, many of the problems that have plagued the UFP have been solved. The Federation enters its second century stronger than ever.

—The heavy cruiser Constitution Class is the largest, most powerful series ever built. It will be the Federation's major series into the 23rd century.

—The Eagle Class starliner, using dilithium warp engines, expands the range of Federation tourism.

—The USS Wells inexplicably travels through time as it returns from a three year mission in only 33 solar days.

—Federation study reports the new generation starships will eventually permit, for the first time, a thorough exploration of all sectors of the UFP's territorial limits.

—The Canopus Class of dilithium research ships begin first extensive work on Sagittarian arm of galaxy.

—Debris from the exploded USS Ajax is found in the form of a comet. This is the first such incident to occur.

—Portsmith Class dilithium destroyers become part of the Federation's first line of defense.

—The 25th Starbase begins operations in this hundredth year of these command centers.

—Talos Star System is declared off limits for reasons unexplained. General Order #7 states “any transgression . . . shall be punishable by death,” the only Order ever to do so.

—Chariot Class dilithium cargo ships greatly increase transportation efficiency by cutting costs and travel time while increasing payloads.

—A remarkable weapon system, phasers, undergoes testing. Unlike lasers or particle beam cannons, this new weapon concentrates so much energy on a target it literally disappears.

—Large scale extra-galactic probe design study completed based on the speculative theory of “superwarp” velocity.

—The Second Earth Centenary Conference is convened with many offering opinions on what the 23rd century holds in store.
