1.2 Propulsion Systems
A matter/antimatter warp core feeding variable-geometry nacelles, with a transwarp field governor descended from the Excelsior 'Great Experiment'.
Main power is a matter/antimatter reaction assembly (M/ARA): deuterium and antideuterium streams are injected into a dilithium-articulated reaction chamber, the controlled annihilation feeding warp plasma into the electro-plasma system (EPS) and out to the nacelles. The chamber uses the energy-moderating property of dilithium — the same principle that first tamed warp-plasma regulation — now with an articulated crystal frame that holds reaction stability across a far wider power band.
Variable-geometry warp nacelles
The Meridian's signature feature is a pair of variable-geometry warp nacelles — the swing-wing principle proven on the Intrepid class, scaled to flagship output. The nacelles raise out of the plane of the hull before high-warp flight, shaping the warp field so the ship can sustain very high factors without inflicting the subspace damage that capped the previous generation's cruise speeds. The same articulation aligns the field geometry for transwarp-corridor entry.
Transwarp governor
An experimental transwarp field governor taps the EPS manifold to generate and hold a stable transwarp conduit — the direct descendant of the Excelsior "Great Experiment" and the Linear Warp building program that followed it. It is fitted but flight-restricted pending fleet trials.
Impulse & reaction control
Sublight power comes from fusion impulse reactors in the saucer and secondary hull, with vectored exhaust for high-agility maneuvering and a saucer-mounted assembly retained for separated flight.
