Design Bureau · Chapter 1 · Meridian-class Explorer
1.4 Tactical & Defensive Systems
Fourteen Type-XII phaser arrays, quantum and photon torpedoes, and a regenerative ablative-augmented multiphasic shield grid.
SCH-06 Tactical & defensive coverage
As a flagship the Meridian is expected to defend itself and a task group without compromising its primary role as an explorer. Its beam armament is fourteen Type-XII phaser arrays distributed for near-spherical coverage, each array firing as a continuous strip rather than discrete emitters so the beam can be walked across a target and concentrated for maximum effect.
Projectile weapons
Five torpedo launchers fire both photon and the higher-yield quantum torpedoes, with fore and aft firing arcs and a stored magazine sized for extended independent operations far from resupply.
Shields & deflector
- Regenerative multiphasic shields — a layered grid that re-modulates against rapidly adapting threats and restores collapsed sections from reserve power faster than it can be brought down.
- Ablative augmentation — a deployable ablative layer over the most exposed hull regions for sustained engagements.
- Deflector emitter mode — the main navigational deflector can be charged as a high-energy emitter for both defensive and scientific use, drawing directly on the warp core.
